World Environment Day: Prime Minister on World Environment Day Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi) presented his views on the issue of environment through video conferencing at the Rotary International Convention 2022 held in Houston. The PM said that India is completing 75 years of independence from colonial rule. A new collective movement has taken shape to save water. This movement is inspired by our age old practices of water conservation with modern solutions.
He said that in India we started Swachh Bharat Mission in 2014 and we have achieved complete sanitation coverage in 5 years. Along with this, he reiterated his promise to the world and said that India’s commitment to net zero by 2070 has been appreciated by the world community. He said that he is happy that Rotary International is actively working to provide clean drinking water and sanitation.
What did PM Modi say about the environment?
PM Modi further said that thousands of years ago our saints gave a powerful sentence. ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah Sarve Santu Niramaya’ This means that everyone should be happy and everyone should be healthy. He said that the vision of life is to live a lifestyle that is friendly to our planet and does not harm it.
Those living such a lifestyle are called ‘pro-planet people’. Mission Life draws from history, works in the present and focuses on the future. The event was attended by Bill Gates, co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, climate economist Lord Nicholas Stern, author of Nudge Theory, Prof. Cass Sunstein, World Resources Institute President and CEO Anirudh Dasgupta, UNE Global Head Inger Andersen, UNDP Global Head Achim Steiner and World Bank President David Malpass were present among many other dignitaries.
