Sidhu Health Updates: Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has been admitted to the Hepatology Ward of PGIMER Hospital, Chandigarh on Monday afternoon due to liver-related problems. At present, his medical examination has been done and according to the doctor, Sidhu’s condition is stable. He was brought from Patiala Jail under heavy security. Sidhu was sent to Patiala Jail on 20 May after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year imprisonment in the 1988 road rage case.

In view of the deteriorating health of Sidhu, he was brought to Rajendra Hospital in Patiali two weeks ago. At the same time, his lawyer had requested Sidhu to give him a special diet in jail, citing his health. In Sidhu’s diet chart, it has been asked to be given low fat milk tea and 25 grams of paneer or half lemon.

Gurnam Singh was killed in this incident in 1988 in Patiala, Punjab. Sidhu and his friend Kanwar Singh Sandhu were convicted by the Punjab Haryana High Court for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced him to three years in prison. But in July 2018, the Supreme Court acquitted Sandhu completely. Whereas Sidhu was only convicted of assault and punished with a fine of only one thousand rupees.

Against this the family of Gurnam Singh approached the Supreme Court. The family demanded a reconsideration of the decision. On 13 September 2018, the court accepted the petition for consideration. But then the court had made it clear that it would only consider the demand for increasing the punishment. This meant that Sidhu would not be tried again for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
