What is Nupur Sharma controversy about Prophet?

After the controversy escalated in this case, the BJP high command has suspended Nupur Sharma from the primary membership of the party. At the same time, the Gulf countries have protested against India regarding this dispute and have summoned the Indian ambassadors.

  • Indian Ambassador to Iran Dhamu Gaddam was summoned by the Director General of South Asia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran on Sunday evening, expressing strong protest over the controversial remarks and calling any insult to the Prophet unacceptable.
  • Qatar told India’s envoy Deepak Mittal that allowing such Islamophobic remarks to continue without punishment is a serious threat to the protection of human rights. This can lead to an atmosphere of violence and hatred.
  • A spokesperson of the Indian Embassy in Qatar and Kuwait said in a press release that the tweets of the BJP leaders do not in any way reflect the views of the Government of India. These are the views of marginalized elements.
  • The spokesperson said that the Indian Ambassador to Qatar, Deepak Mittal, held a meeting at the Foreign Office, which raised concerns regarding some objectionable tweets by individuals in India defaming the worshipers of other religions.
